Final Course Project Defenses 2024

December 15 — Nomadic University defenses and graduation!
The Autumn Semester of Nomadic University is coming to an end.
We are proud that it is once again concluding with the defenses of Final Course Projects: our students did not simply “listen to lectures,” but also read the recommended literature, constantly brought in new sources important for understanding the subject, shared them in study groups, discussed current events, analyzed urgent issues, and, having chosen relevant topics, prepared independent works on them, presenting them to their peers during classes, where they were discussed in detail.
By agreement with the authors, we are bringing the Final Course Projects that are most significant for the common interest to public presentations, so that everyone can become acquainted with the academic work of Nomadic University. This semester, we are seeing a new trend: we are complementing our educational and public outreach work with an expert component. All this is thanks to the increased level of preparation and qualification of our graduates. Come to the public defenses and judge for yourselves how much the presented Final Course Projects address issues that matter to everyone.
The defenses will begin with presentations by the lecturers, who will briefly speak about the main ideas and issues covered during the courses, after which the graduates will take the floor.
The presentations will start with a topic important to everyone — the economy, specifically the economy of Georgia, which is once again at a “transition stage.” What we should all expect from this will be explained by the author of the Transition Economy course.
We will continue with an equally important topic — health, to which two courses were dedicated: Immunity: Fundamentals and Approaches to Strengthening It and Acupuncture: The Magic of Body Points. The course lecturer will speak about the main secrets of maintaining immunity from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine and will share the topics of four Final Course Project defenses by her students, which will take place the day before. And here we have a surprise: one of the course participants turned out to be the leader of the Qigong Federation, who will give a master class in the most beautiful practices of ancient Chinese wellness medicine, accessible to everyone.
After this musical gift, we will focus on a more complex subject: the course “We, the Citizens!”, which examined constitutions, separation of powers, the risks of lustration after the change of repressive regimes, problems of the judiciary in Georgia in obtaining residence permits, and the international protection of constitutional rights, including the right to freedom of peaceful assembly, which we have been observing in Batumi and across the country for the past 14 days.
The presentations will be short and will outline directions for further work in these areas. These topics can be discussed with the speakers during the informal part of the meeting, over a friendly reception.
